During the first 1-2 sessions, we explore the presenting problem/s in depth and identify targeted goals for treatment. Whilst treatment plans will differ for each individual, we try to follow evidence-based treatment protocol as much as possible, as this has proven most effective.
We treat GAD by identifying patterns of anxious thoughts, and using CBT methods to improve a young persons capacity to tolerate fears and worries.
Treatment for OCD follows a CBT-based method of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), targeting intrusive thoughts and associated compulsions by slowly increasing exposure to feared scenarios.
We explore and identify feared social scenarios, working towards goals to improve the young person’s ability to withstand discomfort within a social setting.
Treatment for Panic Disorder (frequent panic attacks) focusses on exploring the psycho-somatic experience of a panic attack, and working towards reframing our physical, emotional and behavioural responses to panic.
We use CBT methodology to process trauma in a safe and measured way. We use age-appropriate adaptations such as through play and creative arts.
Phobias are treated by gradually exposing the young person to their feared situation in a measured and targeted way, in order to create new brain patterns and reduce the anxiety associated with the feared scenario.
We look to identify patterns of behaviour that might be exacerbating low mood. Treatment is largely behavioural, aiming to improve mood by incorporating valued activity into daily life.
For parents of younger children (5-12) struggling with anxiety, I offer ‘Guided Parent-Delivered CBT’ workshops to empower parents with the tools to understand and manage their child’s anxiety. This is delivered either individually or as a group.
